Today, Richard concentrates on the delivery of training courses for banks worldwide and he acts as an expert witness in cases involving UK banking practice. He also has in-depth knowledge of the bus and coach industry and provides training and consultancy services for transport operators. He also lectures on the aerospace industry, especially the evaluation of commercial airlines and aircraft leasing.
Richard is married with two young daughters.
Qualifications:
Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (ACIB), with credits under the Continuing Professional Development scheme.
Member of the Chartered Institute of Transport and Logistics (CMILT).
Certificate of Professional Competence, National Road Passenger Transport Operations.

Head of Risk Management Training 1994

Responsible for the specification, design and provision of training in credit risk management, lending policy, trade finance and treasury product risk for Midland staff and managers. Controlling 15 geographically diverse managers, delivering 20,000 delegate days of training p.a. from 21 locations; budget c.£2m. The principal training courses covered:
· Personal lending (including use of credit scoring systems)
· Lending to small and medium sized enterprises
· Lending to large corporates and multinationals
· Negotiation skills
The post was part of the HR function but with strong operational links to the key business units in the bank, particularly Credit & Risk policy. I was also involved in the delivery of the more senior training courses.
Corporate Banking Manager, Lending Services 1992 - 1994
Direct responsibility for the management of corporate reconstructions, rescues and recoveries for high value (>£4m) exposures and complex, multi banked relationships. Typical portfolio 8 - 10 accounts at any one time, ranging from a major international group and medium sized plcs to a titled sole trader. Significant interaction with external service providers, eg accountants and solicitors. The role included the day to day management of the accounts, such as approving payments, responding to status enquiries & taking security.
Typical achievements included:
· handled sensitive negotiations with titled sole trader and formulated a rescue plan, involving the conversion of the business to limited company and a partial debt for equity conversion.
Corporate Banking Manager, Aerospace 1985
- 1992
Winning new business and managing existing relationships with the major airlines and aerospace manufacturers worldwide (especially in Scandinavia, Northern Europe and the US). Latterly deputy head of aerospace finance. Again, the role also included direct management responsibility for the day to day banking needs of the client companies.
Typical achievements included:
· winning mandate to structure a £50m line of credit for a major freight carrier;
· participating in a variety of innovative aircraft financing transactions involving export credit and leasing structures;
· successfully controlling the bank's relationship to a major manufacturer (the bank's largest single corporate exposure) through a period of major change and uncertainty for that manufacturer, when their credit ratings were reduced, maintaining a strong income stream for the bank without undue risk;
· managing a multi bank group (with significant tensions and rivalries) lending to a distressed major US carrier, ensuring that the banks' position was protected at all times through to eventual full repayment despite the bankruptcy of the airline.
Credit Training Lecturer 1983

Responsible for the design and delivery of credit training to staff in the International Division. Key accountability was for the prestigious International Bankers Programme, a 5 week long course for key correspondent banks worldwide that has now run successfully for over 40 years.

Credit and marketing analysis support to a London based team dealing with Fortune 1000 companies in the US.

Seven years retail banking experience, covering all routine banking tasks including personal and small business lending, starting as an office junior and rising to Head of Securities and Deputy Sub Manager, in nine branches.
Fully qualified as an Associate of the Institute of Bankers in three years (minimum time possible).
